Fear Not, Papi is Here
Our friends Dayna and Billy are swooping through town this weekend to take in the Red Sox, the Pats and U2 before heading back to DC. Billy has been force feeding Dayna a steady diet of Red Sox for many years. He is a kindly fanatic who had his groomsmen wear Red Sox jackets over their tuxes when they were introduced at their wedding reception, which took place one week after the World Series last year. Dayna, a New Jersey native, is a bona fide Sox fan but made a confession to me last month when we were at a game together. Clutching her giant foam finger to her chest, she whispered that Big Papi "kind of scares her." This didn't surprise me as he kind of scares me a little bit too. In fact, if I ever found myself face-to-face with him in a confined area, I probably would have an accident. However, after seeing Papi's Comcast commercial -- where he talks about his recipe for mango salsa wooooooooooo -- my fear dissipated a bit. The ad dispelled many of my preconceived notions or images of him strangling young chickens and offering them up to the voodoo spirits. In reality, he's a just a big lug and an MVP. He would only be scary to me now if he were playing for the Yankees. GO SOX!

I was seriously plotting today in the car what type of take out would be best served with game time tonight. Can't wait!!
We're celebrating my mother's b-day on Sunday and actually moved the "lunch" up to "brunch" so no one misses a single pitch. The funny thing is my mother was the driving force behind this. Go Sox and Go Peg!
It must be pointed out that Dayna's visit to Beantown and trip to Fenway was the Sox only home loss in the month of August. Therefore, I promise all to keep her well away from Kenmore Square during their current visit. I wish I could do the same to Kevin Millar.
KJ... you just typed something terrible that I never ever thought of. Big Papi as a Yankee. Can you imagine? I think I would throw up in my mouth each time he came to the plate in pinstripes.
SB- I nearly threw up in my mouth watching last night's game vs. White Sox.
